TD Setup, Planning postponing & technical showdown
Category: Reflection, Process
1. Introduction
On January 15th, I had an online coaching session where I shared my first working TouchDesigner setup and discussed next steps. The session covered:
- Demonstrating my first installation test.
- Discussing the 3D room setup and contacting the ergotherapy alumni.
- Planning progress (which I had forgotten to prepare).
While this session was more focused on my technical progress, it also helped clarify logistics and next steps.
2. Key Topics Discussed
First TouchDesigner Installation Test
For this session, I demonstrated my first working setup in TouchDesigner. This version:
- Used a static mask input to reveal one image over another.
- Functioned as a basic proof of concept for how the projection could work.
This initial test confirmed that the revealing effect was possible, but it still lacked body tracking to create a dynamic mask.
Coach’s Response:
- He approved the concept, confirming that the core effect was functional.
- Encouraged me to integrate body tracking to make the interaction dynamic.
Next Steps:
- Integrate real-time body tracking into TouchDesigner.
- Experiment with different tracking methods to replace the static mask with a dynamic one.
Exploring the Ergotherapy 3D Room
The 3D room setup came up in discussion again, as it could be a useful space for testing my installation. Since I wasn’t sure who to contact, my coach asked another teacher, Wouter, about how to get in touch with the ergotherapy alumni.
Coach’s Response:
- Reached out to Wouter to get the correct contact information.
- Suggested that meeting the alumni in person might help secure access to the 3D room.
Next Steps:
- Follow up on the ergotherapy contact once Wouter provided the details.
- Plan a visit to the 3D room for testing if possible.
Project Planning (Postponed)
Previously, my coach had asked me to prepare a structured planning for the next weeks. However, I forgot to prepare it before this session.
Coach’s Response:
- He noted that we would review the planning next week instead.
Next Steps:
- Create a detailed planning overview for the next session.
3. Key Takeaways from the Coaching Session
1. The Core Visual Concept Works
- The static mask-based reveal works well, meaning the effect is achievable.
- The next challenge is integrating dynamic body tracking.
2. The 3D Room Setup is Still a Good Opportunity
- Contacting the ergotherapy alumni is the next step to securing access.
- Following up with Wouter should help me get the correct contact.
3. Planning Was Overlooked
- Postponing to next week gives me time to create a structured overview.
4. Next Steps
- Integrate body tracking into TouchDesigner to replace the static mask.
- Follow up on the 3D room contact after Wouter provides details.
- Prepare the requested planning for the next coaching session.
This session helped validate my technical direction and set clear goals for the next phase of development.
