Planning, Resources & Finding a Kinect – Coaching Feedback
Category: Reflection, Process
1. Introduction
On January 22nd, I had an online coaching session to discuss my progress, planning, and key challenges. The session covered:
- Finding a Kinect sensor for motion tracking.
- Lending a projector from school.
- Following up on my email to the ergotherapy team.
- Sharing my updated project planning for feedback.
- Showing my progress in TouchDesigner and initial body tracking results.
While this was a relatively short session, it provided helpful guidance on next steps.
2. Key Topics Discussed
Showing My Progress in TouchDesigner
During the session, I demonstrated my current work in TouchDesigner, where I had created several small demos and successfully implemented body tracking. I also managed to mask out two different room images based on user movement.
My coach confirmed that this was solid progress and that I was on the right track. The school had provided a Windows PC for testing, which was a huge help in getting everything to run smoothly.
Searching for a Kinect
At this point, I had not yet found a Kinect sensor, I had the idea that there was one hidden in my attic, cellar or somewhere because I used to have it but could not find it after multpiple search attempts. I did not really want to give up so would now proceed to ask my network of friends and Instagram network to find.
Coach’s Response:
- He acknowledged that I still had time but emphasized that finding a Kinect is important, as it was a core element in my initial project plan.
- He encouraged me to continue searching to ensure I secured one soon.
Next Steps:
- Reach out to more contacts to locate a Kinect.
Lending a Projector
Since my project required proper projection testing, I asked if it was possible to borrow a projector from school.
Coach’s Response:
- He confirmed that I could lend a projector, which would allow me to test different setups.
Next Steps:
- Pick up the projector from school and begin testing projection angles.
- Experiment with different setups to avoid shadows blocking the projection.
Following Up with the Ergotherapy Alumni
Previously, I had emailed alumni from the ergotherapy program to inquire about their 3D room setup, which could provide valuable insights. However, I had not yet received a response.
Coach’s Advice:
- Instead of waiting longer, I should try contacting the team via Microsoft Teams, as this might result in a quicker response.
- If I still didn’t get a reply, I could ask a faculty member who might know the location of the setup.
Next Steps:
- Message the ergotherapy contact via Teams.
- If no response, reach out to another faculty contact.
Presenting My Project Planning
I also shared my planning for the next two weeks, outlining my tasks and milestones leading up to the next coaching session.

Coach’s Response:
- He approved my planning structure. But stated that it was more for my personal use rather than a need.
- No major changes were suggested, meaning I could proceed as scheduled.
